Pablo Salvador Valdés Barrera

Pablo Salvador Valdés Barrera, outstanding young Chilean clarinetist, was born in Santiago de Chile in 1990. He started his studies at the Copiapo Music Lyceum in the year 2000, alongside the professor Andrés Pallero King, and got in at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile in 2007. Later, in 2011, he got in at the Modern School of Music and Dance, with professor Jorge Rodriguez Cerda.

Parallel to his formal studies, he was part of the Metropolitan Student Symphonic Orchestra (2007-2008), National Youth Symphonic Orchestra (2009-2013) and was given a scholarship by the Corporation of Friends of the Municipal Theater of Santiago (2008-2013).

He participated in different masterclasses with the masters: Ronald van Spaendonck (l’Ecole Normale de Musique from Paris), Michael Rusinek (Pittsburgh Symphony), Laura Ruiz Ferreres(Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main), Jonathan Cohler (Boston Conservatory), Jorge Montilla (University of Iowa School of Music), Cristiano Alves (Orquesta Sinfônica Petrobras), Michael Arrignon (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique from Paris), Alain Damiens (Ensamble Intercontemporain), Olivier Derbersse (Orchestre from Paris), Carlos Cespedes (Orquesta Estable del Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires), Dmitry Limantsev (Bolshoi Orchestra), Antonio Saiote (Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo, Portugal), Mariano Rey (Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires), Michael Webster (Rice University), among others.

He attended at the 11th and 14th edition of the Santa Caterina Music Festival FEMUSC (Brazil), the 9th International Festival of Young Clarinetists of Venezuela and Orquesta Academia Internacional Teatro del Lago de Frutillar 2015. In 2019 he participated as a teacher at the 1st Atacama International Clarinetists Festival.

Between 2014 and 2016 he was the Soloist Clarinetist of the Temuco Philharmonic Orchestra, where he launched the “Concerto for Clarinet and Strings” from the Chilean composer Carlos Zamora.

He has toured in Chile, as a music guest, with the Concepción Symphonic Orchestra, Maula Classic Orchestra, Valdivia Chamber Orchestra, Chile Chamber Orchestra, Marga-Marga Orchestra, Andrés Bello Camerata University, Antofagasta Symphonic Orchestra, Copiapó Symphonic Orchestra, among others.

He graduated from the Modern Music School where he works, since 2017, as a soloist clarinetist of the Classical Orchestra USACH and of the USACH Quintet.
