Musical producer, composer, arranger, saxophonist, winner of the 2003 National Music Award Jazz line and of the 2012 Casandra Awards. Born in Nagua and then was developing his professional career in the city of Puerto Plata. He began his music studies at 14 years, with his father, the Dominican saxophonist, Socrates Gabriel. He has also studied Jazz Harmony, with musicians such as Dave Liebman, Paquito D’Rivera and many more. He masters the alto, tenor and soprano saxophones, the electronic wind instrument (EWI), flute and synthesizer. In the middle of 1992, he began as musical director of his own jazz group and took music as a career, jazz specifically, to compose his own songs and ensembled them in his group Puerto Plata Jazz Ensemble.

He has participated with jazz artists such as Arturo Sandoval, Giovanni Hidalgo, Humberto Ramírez, Paquito D ‘Rivera and many more. He has represented the Dominican Republic and participated in different international Jazz Festivals, such as Borinquen Jazz Festival, Heineken Jazz Festival, Ramajay Jazz Festival and many more. In addition, he has participated in more than 100 musical productions of artists, such as Julio Iglesias, Juan Luis Guerra, Chichi Peralta, and many others. He was the musical producer of the Project Big Band Nuñez, Jose Feliciano, Hermanos Rosario, Los Toros Band and Casandra Awards; he performed in the first concert of the World Jazz Circuit and has recorded all the saxophones on the new album by Juan Luis Guerra.

Sandy Gabriel was also a special guest of two great world Jazz figures, Dave Grussin & Lee Ritenour, at his recent concert in the Dominican Republic. He participated in the opening of the 3rd concert of the World Jazz Circuit with the guitarist Frank Gambale.

In 2011 Sandy launches his first musical production, call Jazzeando, being the first Dominican jazzist to have as guests great jazz artists such as Chucho Valdes, Giovanni Hidalgo and John Benitez; in addition he has been the first Dominican jazzist to bring creole jazz to the most important performance hall of the Dominican Republic: the National Theater.

In 2014 he travels to the United Arab Emirates for the third time, with his band, to sell out a series of concerts being the first Dominican artists to take Dominican Jazz through these lands of the Middle East. Also, in 2014 they toured all over the United States and recognized in Miami as a distinguished guest and for his great career and contribution to jazz. In said year Sandy was nominated for the Soberan Awards, in the category Featured Artist Abroad.

In 2015 was invited to participate as part of the faculty of professors of the University of North Carolina, in the Summer Jazz World Shop, where he was in charge of the master class of more than 60 saxophone students.

He is currently working on different musical productions, one of them being Sandy Gabriel Duet’s, that will have as guests artists Ivan Lins, Maridalia Hernandez, Luis Enrique, Danny Rivera and Arturo Sandoval, among others. He also works in a piano and saxophone production with the great Dominican master Rafael Solano, where there will be a fusion of world-famous themes by Dominican artists and composers.

Sandy Gabriel made a musical production with musicians from North Carolina, call The Dominican Jazz Projects, where they have performed 11 original songs, with a fusion of Dominican music, with arrangements from Steve Anderson Dr. in Music, Sandy Gabriel, Guillo Carias, Carlos Luis.

Sandy was part of the First Restoration Jazz Festival, where he participated with his Pop Jazz Ensemble band, along with Giovanni Hidalgo, Néstor Torres, Chieli Minucci, Roberto Perera and Ramón Vásquez.

Sandy Gabriel is currently working on a new record production, call Sandy Gabriel and Friends, which includes guests artists and will be launch on April 2020 in the National Theater of the Dominican Republic.
