Clarinet Reed Family

The definitive guide with all our models.

We have a complete family of Bb Clarinet reeds, which adjust to the different needs of musicians. Because many asked us for it, below we present the differences of each of them, so that you can identify which one is the best for you. Be sure to consider trying them by the box, or through our new Pick and Mix offering that will allow you to try most just a few at a time.

Classic

It is a reed with a traditional French vamp. Therefore, you will feel familiar with it no matter what reeds brand you come from. It has an excellent response and a nuanced sound. It is the one that offers the most resistance of all our models.

It comes standard with:
A Filed Cut (straight cut on the varnish) for extra flexibility
The option to choose a reed strength that fits you best by 0.5
Traditional clarinet reed dimensions (familiar feeling)
• Made with 25 to 27 mm tubes, 3.5 mm thick
• 2.8mm thick

Regular Cut (RC)

It is also a classic vamp, but with slight modifications that make it more flexible and spontaneous. It is an easier emitting reed than the Classics.

It’s standard features include:
A Crescent cut on the varnish, for extra support
The option to choose a reed strength by 0.25, for more precise selection

GD

In this model the vamp is longer, with more wood in the center and the tip, and more pronounced on the sides. That makes it a more vibrant reed. In addition, it is made with larger diameter and thicker tubes. Having more wood, it is a reed with a deep sound, and an extended useful life.

Thicker reed blanks (more wood):

• 3.2mm thick reed
• Larger vamp for a more vibrating reed, and more wood for increased longevity.

FOF

It shares characteristics with GD, it is a more vibrant reed than a Classic or RC. It does not have a filed cut, so it has extra rigidity due to the varnish. That is compensated by a narrower molding. It is a difference that will be noticed more when you play on it than in the sound, although the most attentive will be able to distinguish it as well.
